Resources for the Drupaler

April 28th, 2009

One of the reasons I fell into spending time with the Drupal web site framework is the incredible amount of on-demand, digestible information out there for all levels of Web designers and developers. While I’d love to attend a Drupalcon or a local Drupal camp gathering and experience that sort of knowledge transfer, my crazy schedule and copious kid-related duties make attending multiday training events out of town on my own nickle not especially feasible. That’s why happy discoveries like Lullabot’s “Do it with Drupal” videos are so welcome.

Put on by Lullabot last December in New Orleans, “Do it with Drupal” was a three-day seminar featuring some big names in the Drupal developer community, along with live case studies presented by the folks behind well-known Drupal-powered sites like Hanging out in New Orleans again would definitely have made the trip from Colorado a worthwhile journey in and of itself. I need not go back in time, however, nor curse my inability to travel, as the various presenter sessions and keynotes were captured on good-quality video and are archived on the “Do it with Drupal” site.

I paid $95 to access the archive (still less than most of my CS text books) and for several weeks now I have been absorbing a selection of the 34 or so hour+ videos available on the site. As with most educational experiences such as this, some of the presentations are more useful than others. But, for the price, the knowledgable people presenting, the Q-and-A captured, and, in general, the huge amount of content that there is to consume, it’s not a bad way to learn a few new things.
